Our client Walsall Council are looking for a Handyman.

The rate of pay is £9.46 PAYE per hour

ASAP start

6 months initially

Will need to have an enhanced adults check

Hours are 8-12 or 9-1 Mon to Fri Flexible

Location is Willenhall

  • External rubbish is stored appropriately, and locked and unlocked ready for collections.
  • Sweep and clear paths, remove debris.
  • Carry out minor repairs to the property, fixtures and fittings.
  • Assist in porterage of office equipment and deliveries.
  • Ensure all escape routes are kept clear.
  • Regular check of roofs and guttering to prevent blockages and flooding.
  • Maintain heating, lighting, gas and water.
  • Monitoring and settings of boilers in the building. Ensure boiler rooms stay free of clutter and fire hazards.
  • Another other work deemed necessary or requested buy building manager.
  • Overseeing contractors when professional repairs are necessary.
  • Snow clearance and laying down of grit, keeping paths and entrances accessible.
  • Professional presentation and attitude
  • General awareness of building managers responsibilities under Health and Safety.
    Legionella in the Workplace; Awareness off; Ability to flush redundant showers taps and toilets: Water testing and temperatures; Audit completion.
    Legionella bacteria can be found in any water system, given the right environmental conditions, but are more prevalent in man-made water systems including:cooling tower and evaporative condensers;
  • hot and cold water systems;
  • spa pools.
  • Other water systems that may pose a risk to exposure to Legionella include:
  • humidifiers;
  • air washers;
  • emergency showers;
  • indoor ornamental fountains, etc.
  • Health and safety law requires employers or someone in control of premises (e.g. a landlord),
  • to understand and manage Legionella risks to staff, visitors, contractors and members of the public, and to take suitable precautions, including:

identifying, assessing, and addressing sources of risk (through the carrying out of a Legionella risk assessment, usually by a third-party);
appointing a ‘responsible person’ to manage and control any risks;
keeping and maintaining the correct records;
carrying out any other duties you may have.
In buildings owned / managed by Walsall Council then Integrated Facilities Management (IFM) will usually* arrange for:

Legionella risk assessments to be carried out (by a suitably qualified third party);
the completion of any remedial work (e.g. removal of dead ends) identified as a result of the risk assessment;
the carrying out various regular tests (see later).
