Our client Walsall Council are looking for a Community Protection Officer.

Walsall, West Midlands (County)

Salary/Rate:£15.21/hour Negotiable

Main purpose of the job role:

  • Under the general direction of the Regulatory Services Manager (Community Protection) deliver Community Protection Service, in line with current corporate, national and regional policies and priorities.
  • Through the day to day operation of the service and using appropriate intelligence methods work as part of a team of officers to achieve appropriate impacts and outcomes for residents, businesses and visitors to Walsall.
  • The service is currently responsible for licensing enforcement, environmental crime, noise, certain elements of pollution, anti-social behaviour, unauthorised encampments but this list is not exhaustive and may change from time to time.

Knowledge and Abilities

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate, with experience of writing prosecution reports for management.
  • Applying for injunctions and court orders
  • Must be confident giving evidence in court and present at committee hearings
  • To be able to mediate and negotiate between parties and communicate with service users
  • Excellent public speaking and presentation skills
  • Knowledge of criminal and civil legislation
  • Excellent knowledge of powers for effective enforcement
  • Excellent team player
  • Willingness to work some unsociable hours
  • Excellent ability to prioritise work and have a good attention to detail


  • Experience of the council’s policies and procedures
  • Evidence of developing and maintaining good working relationships with colleagues and partners
  • Use of intelligence systems and methods
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills
  • Manages time and prioritises work to maximise productivity and effectiveness
  • Experience of making critical decisions with skill
  • Experience of writing professional reports
  • Confident in giving evidence at court


  • Evidence of previous experience and demonstration or equivalent
  • Previous experience with evidence of continuous development in a relevant area of work.
  • Have full UK driving license and use of own transport
